A Symbol Of Unity: Sunnis and ****'ites offer joint prayers

Manama: “Bahrainis have set a model of unity in the face of conspirators against the Arab and Islamic nations,” said Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa yesterday.

All mosques are for Allah Almighty, he said, adding that Bahrain would always remain a model of moderation, harmony, Islamic unity and patriotism.

“The extremist, wherever he is in Bahrain, will always find himself isolated,” said Shaikh Khalid on the sidelines of a joint Friday prayer performed at A’ali Grand Mosque.

He added that Bahrain and its people would stand as a bulwark against attempts to subvert their country’s security, undermine national achievements or derail the homeland which derives its policy from its religion, Arab identity and civilisational values.

The minister paid tribute to the people of Bahrain who voiced strong solidarity with their brethren in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to confront the scourge of terrorism, which reflects their awareness, spirit of fraternity and true mettle.

A’ali Grand Mosque Imam Shaikh Nasser Khalaf Al Asfoor highlighted the critical situation facing the nation as a result of external dangers and international designs which threaten its existence.

He pointed out that Bahrainis, hailing from all sects and doctrines, have long lived on this land of peace, security, tolerance, solidarity and co-existence.

He hailed Bahrainis from the two sects who performed the joint prayers at A’ali Grand Mosque, even as the whole region is going through a difficult situation, for sending a strong message which says that this country remains immune to terrorism and all intimidation and threats will only make Bahrainis more united and determined.

Meanwhile, security was tight at mosques across the kingdom yesterday.

The day passed without incident with police out in full force and volunteers helping ensure people’s safety.
