Eye Care » Remedy for Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eye syndrome is caused due to decreased production of tear or an increase in tear film evaporation. A decrease in the sensitivity of cornea is also found which can be caused due to wearing certain contact lens.
The lipid or mucus production is generally abnormal in the tear layer. Keratoconjunctivitis is the clinical name given to this eye problem.

Usually both eyes get affected. The symptoms include tired eyes, itching, scratchy eye, redness, a pulling sensation, a decreased sensitivity of bright light. The eye discharges is very low.

Remedies for Dry eye syndrome -

  • Include a diet with fruits and vegetables which is rich in Vitamin A, which helps dry eyes as tears contain vitamin A in them.

  • Primrose Oil is a good source of essential fatty acids that aids -1000 mg twice a day can be helpful.

  • MSM Drops (methylsulfonylmethane) is found to help in re-hydration of eye, it must be diluted in water, make sure it gets fully dissolved. You can add them to your eyes like eye drops.

  • Artificial tears, lubricating eye drops and gels can be used to lubricate the surface of the eye. Use them only during night since they can blur the image in day time.

  • Don’t strain your eyes. Blink often this will lubricate the eye in a natural manner.

  • Smoking will injure eyes, it is best to avoid it.

  • Ionic minerals help to re-hydrate your body in general.

  • Avoid white rice and go for brown rice.

  • Take limited sodium in your diet.

  • Include fiber food, fish and dairy products in your daily diet.

  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day; this will help to flush the toxins through kidneys.

  • Avoid being seated just before a fan and decrease the speed with this you can avoid air movements.
