Bahrain:
Expats plan reunion party in UK EXPATS, who used to live in Bahrain and other Gulf countries in the 1970s and 1980s, will gather in the UK later this year for a reunion. Former Radio Bahrain DJ Paul Stephen is hosting the Gulf Reunion Party in a village called Meriden, near Birmingham, on October 17. Former GCC residents are expected to fly in from around the world to attend the event. 'We made such great friends and had such a fabulous time during our time in the Gulf states from the 1970 to 1990,'Â Mr Stephen told the GDN. 'Inevitably, all of our friends and acquaintances are now spread all over the world. 'News has spread like wildfire among the expats, who lived in Bahrain in the 70s and 80s, so now we've got people coming from Bahrain, Oman, the Far East, Europe and America as well. 'It's going to be a fantastic and quite nostalgic evening. 'We make great friends out in Bahrain, to be honest lifelong friends. 'We had such a great time. 'The honest truth is we've talked about it for so long, so many people in contact through social media, saying wouldn't it be great if we could get together one more time? 'Someone said that to me once too often and I thought I'll organise it. 'It's going to be an absolutely awesome event because we'll be seeing people we haven't seen for 30 or 40 years.'Â Mr Stephen has also arranged for other Radio Bahrain DJs to attend the event and provide entertainment throughout the night. 'It's being held at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel and Country Club in Meriden,'Â he said. 'We have a marquee to ourselves and I've managed to get together the old Radio Bahrain crew. 'It'll be the crew from the very, very early days when Ahmed Suleiman was running the radio, in the mid to late 70s and 80s. 'It'll be Bob McReadie, Adrian Ross, Mike Ocean, and myself. 'We'll be putting on an old-school disco.'Â He said so far up to 160 people were expected to attend. 'I've been out of Bahrain too long and we all say they were the best years of our lives there and we were lucky to be there when we were,'Â he said. 'We've got so many friends out there still. 'I really hope I can come back at some stage. 'But in the meantime, we can all meet up.'Â Source:gulfdailynews http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/NewsDetails.aspx?storyid=402052 |
