Kuwait has had no confirmed reports of polio since 1984, four years prior to the global announcement of the eradication of this disease in 1988, said a Kuwaiti official on Saturday.
Speaking at the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), member of the Kuwaiti Health Ministry's delegation, Dr. Mohammad Al-Nasser, said that Kuwait began administering the polio vaccination since 1963, and made it mandatory for children in 1980, which led to a fall in cases and its eventual disappearance. |
