Nurses File Complaint

KUWAIT CITY, June 28: India’s Maharashtra police Thursday filed a case against Khadamat Integrated Solutions Pvt Ltd following complaints by several prospective nurses selected by the Kuwait’s Ministry of Health (MoH) for employment in Kuwait that the agency was asking for huge sums of money for medical screening. According to Indian sources the Maharashtra police have raided the agency’s office in Mumbai.

“It was following the complaint filed by the nurses selected for employment in Kuwait by the MoH that the raid was carried out by the Mumbai police following allegation that the agency was charging IRs 23,000 for the medical screening instead of IRs 3,000,” said one of the leading Indian English dailies quoting a police official. However, the agency officials maintained it was due to the new medical screening process that the charges have been increased.

According to them, earlier the nurses, after undergoing medical screening in India had to undergo another test in Kuwait, which was very expensive. Meanwhile, Khadamat Integrated Solutions Pvt. Ltd claimed it has been authorized by the Kuwait government to carry out medical fitness test in the wake of growing drug resistant TB cases.

The agency clarified it is charging IRs 24,000 because the tests are expensive including bio-metric. The agency says IRs 3000 is paid to the government. The agency said it can once again start operations in Kerala (which were earlier suspended) and is ready for discussions with the Kerala government.

The Kochi City Police had also filed a case against the same agency because of the high cost of medical tests from employees heading for Kuwait, following which the agency had decided to stop its operation in Kochi. Since then the employees, particularly the nurses were depending on centers of the agency in Chennai and Mumbai for medical screening.
