Kuwait appreciates expats’ role in state development
KUWAIT: Kuwait is home to more than 2 million workers from 120 nationalities who have been contributing to the country’s development in all fields, a senior Foreign Ministry official said yesterday, adding that the efforts of those workers are all appreciated. Kuwait is keen on participating effectively in the activities organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO), and donates $300,000 voluntarily annually to support its plans and programs, said Ambassador Nasser Al-Subaih, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Follow-up and Coordination Department. Ambassador Subaih was speaking during a training course the ministry organized yesterday on the rights of workers in national and international conventions, under the supervision of ILO and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). He added that the event is part of the ministry’s developmental project under the title ‘Enhancing the role and efforts of Kuwait in the human rights field,’ which aim at evolving skills of workers in this regard. Humanitarian center The course comes at a time when Kuwait is promoting itself on the international scene as a humanitarian center, Director General of the Foreign Ministry’s Kuwait Diplomatic Institute (KDI) Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Sharekh said in a keynote speech. The two-day event aims to upgrade skills of workers of Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, Ministry of Interior and Manpower Public Authority, he added. The course also seeks to help participants be acquainted with the international developments pertaining to human rights so as to boost and protect these rights, he made clear. Close relation President of IOM mission in Kuwait Iman Erekat said meanwhile that there is a close relation between the development of countries and their respect of rights of workers.
