Kuwait may face critical electricity crisis in 2013
An informed source at the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) has warned that the country may encounter a critical electricity crisis in 2013, especially if the North Zour Power Station does not start operating by next year. The source added that between the transitional period in 2012 and expected production date of the Northern Zour station at the beginning of 2013, the MEW can avert the crisis by completing the Subiya Power Station project in 2012. It is expected that the total electricity production will reach up to 14,000 megawatts that will meet the increasing demand. He pointed out that if the ministry does not complete the project of North Zour Station, then ministry will face very difficult circumstances in 2014 as well. The source asserted that it is impossible for the North Zour Station to start electricity production in the summer of 2012 and water production in 2013 as per the MEW schedule. |
