Kuwait New labor law comes into effect
|

KUWAIT: Sunday carried good news for all private sector employees following the publication of the new private sector labor law in the State gazette yesterday. The official publication means that the law has now come into force.
Among other new points, the new law stipulates that minors under the age of 15 cannot be recruited and that women are not allowed to work after 10:00 pm or be involved in risky tasks. Pregnant women, under the new labor law, are entitled to 70 days maternity leave, and breastfeeding women are allocated two hours daily to leave their posts. The new law also bans termination for unjustifiable reasons, while end of service indemnity is specified as 15Ù€days pay for each year up to five years'' employment, and a full month''s salary for every year should an employee have been employed longer than five and less than 10 years. The new law also stipulates that employees can work for 8 hours a day, including an a hour long break, for six days a week, and that if they work on Friday they are entitled to a day and a half''s pay and a day off during the following week, not counting the following Friday. The law allocates employees 13 paid public holidays as well as 15 days fully paid sick leave. The new law also stipulates the setting up of a public authority to recruit and hire expatriate laborers. |
