Kuwait wins gold in Asian Games Karate competition |

GUANGZHOU, China: Kuwait won on Friday its 11th medal and fourth gold at the Asian Games held in the city of Guangzhou, China. The medal was won by Karate player Hamad Al-Nuwaiem in the under 75 kilograms competition. He competed in the final game against a player from Taiwan.
Before that, Al-Nuwaiem won in games against players from Iraq, Nepal, and Kazakhstan. Kuwait scored a record diplomatic victory after taking a firm stance against failure of hoisting the Kuwaiti flag in front of Asian delegations taking part in the general assembly of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS). The steering committee of the convention responded to the unwavering and bold stance, taken by the chairman and members of the Kuwaiti media delegation, threatening to withdraw and boycott the event unless a Kuwaiti flag be set up, or flags of the participating nations be taken out. |
