New Expatriate Workers To Undergo Skill Tests: Official
KUWAIT CITY, July 25: Acting Director General of Public Authority for Manpower Ahmad Al-Mousa revealed about some new mechanisms that are being prepared to organize the process of hiring expatriate personnel from overseas or locally, such as skill tests. He explained that the center for career skills will establish examination centers in Kuwait and overseas in coordination with Public Authority for Manpower to conduct theory and practical tests of the expatriates who wish to work in Kuwait, which will in turn help organize the labor market of the country. Al-Mousa indicated that the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh had earlier formed a team to identify the professions for which such tests have to be conducted and the conditions that expatriate personnel have to meet to enter the Kuwaiti labor market. He stressed the keenness of Kuwait to protect the rights of expatriate personnel based on Law 6/2010 regarding private sector labor, insisting that the country has taken several procedures to protect the rights of the expatriates such as establishing a shelter for them in accordance with international criteria and specifications allotted in this regard. Al-Mousa explained that the shelter has the capacity of accommodating 500 expatriates until their conflicts with their employers are settled and they receive their due rights and their flight tickets back to their homeland. Psychologists, sociologists and legal experts will be assigned to follow up the situations of the expatriates residing in the shelter.
