World AIDS Day marked
KUWAIT CITY: Based on statistics issued by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health on HIV/AIDS, the number of cases recorded as of 2008 were 128, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Dr Abeer Al-Bawah of the Medical Support Department made the statement to commemorate World AIDS Day.

She said the World Health Organization (WHO) report indicates that 33.4 million people worldwide suffer from HIV, out of which 2.1 million are children and the majority of them live in poor countries.

Meanwhile, about 90 percent of people infected with HIV/AIDS live in Eastern Mediterranean, and the majority of them aren’t aware of their condition because the disease doesn’t show early symptoms, Al-Bawah disclosed, indicating few people conduct HIV test there.
