Prabasi is a non-profit socio-cultural organization of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is a membership-based organization whose focus is on the Bengali language and culture. Prabasi was formed in 1974 and is run by an elected Board of Directors. Prabasi organizes at least four cultural get-togethers every year - Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja and Anandamela. Besides it also organizes Bengali movie shows when available, annual new-year's eve parties and picnics. Prabasi is also instrumental in coordinating relief efforts when a natural disaster strikes.
