Helsinki Zoo

The Helsinki Zoo is the largest zoo in Finland situated in Korkeasaari Island. The zoo is spread on a 54 acre (22 hectare) stony island. You need to travel by ferry to reach the island. Once at the island, you will get the unique experience to traverse in different terrains, right from the Tundra region to the .tropical forest, from the alien mountain peaks to the domestic marshlands. The zoo depicts diversity in nature by housing nearly 150 species of animals and 1000 plant varieties.

The zoo also has endangered animal species .The animals are kept in their natural habitats. The zoo is divided geographically into Africasia, Borealia and Amazonia.


At the deep Amazonia forest, you will be welcomed by the razor-sharp howling of parakeets and small monkeys.

At the semi-desert of Africa you can harmonize manually to life’s slow rhythm in the company of turtles and callous lizards.

Once you step into the jungle of Indonesia, there is a lot of surprises store in for you. You may either get a chance to encounter with a vivid green snake untwisting from a tree branch, or may hear a cockroach hiss or a stick and leaf bug.

You can also climb to the arid Himalayan mountain tops and upland, and share a common platform with the takins, wild horses, snow leopards, Asiatic asses, camels, markhors and miniature pandas.

Make use of the mountain excursion and catch a close glimpse of how the bearded vultures, ibexes, the Andes guanacos and the Rocky mountain goats lead their lives.

You can also have a tete a tete with the survivors of the Arctic region like snowy owl, musk ox and the reindeers of the European forest or with the leopards, Amur tigers, and the Cat valley lynxes.

The perfect ambient setting of rock castles, old villas and peacocks sauntering on the rocks, takes you to the early period, some 120 years back, when the zoo was established. You can also enjoy the picnic with your family members spending time on the seashore are on top of a cliff.

Opening hours

The zoo is opened in all months from 10.00 am to 4pm, except in the month of May to August, when it is opened for more extended hours, from 10.00 am to 8 pm.

For Adults the fees is 10 € (by land) and 16 € (by ferry). The admission is free for kids under the 6 year of age.
