Expat workers misusing labor laws
JEDDAH: Government bodies are carrying on campaigns to stop transgressions and violations of expatriate workers who use articles that govern relations between employers and workers to pressure establishments they work with. The private sector is taking measures to combat these violations. Member of the national commercial committee at the Saudi Council of Chambers Mahmoud Rashwan said a specialized committee has been formed to deal with this issue and that a number of violations have been detected and reports filed with the Ministry of Labor. Ways must be found to ensure the continuity of the system while closing gaps that might be used by expatriates. Violations included absconding to force the employer to file a report. However absconding is hard to prove in some professions such as drivers which means the complaint is invalid. If the complaint is invalid, the Ministry of Labor needs to change the status of the laborers registered in the ministry's files from absconding into one of waiting to transfer his profession. http://www.arabnews.com/saudi-arabia/news/751286 |
