Inspection campaign uncovers 79 violations at commercial facilities

JEDDAH: The Ministry of Labor completed its inspection campaigns in Jeddah at a number of commercial facilities which uncovered 79 violations.
The commercial facilities included Al-Sulaymaniyah Plaza, Al-Roshan Mall and Mall of Arabia. These inspections followed directions from Abdullah Al-Alyan, director general at the ministry’s branch in Makkah. Inspections will continue throughout Eid Al-Fitr.
Majdi Bamkoura, in charge of inspections in Makkah, revealed that raids will continue with a view to checking stores in terms of expat labor force, their residency visas and work permits, as well as Saudization rates. He pointed out that women inspectors teams in Jeddah conducted a number of inspections at the markets to check on women’s shops.
Bamkoura confirmed the cooperation of all relevant authorities to verify the statuses of workers in these facilities, saying that the ministry will not be lenient in implementing the system and inspections teams will continue throughout the Eid holiday.
He said 62 violating facilities have been penalized from the 64 which were visited. Around 38 stores were found in violation of feminization rules and three stores had runaway workers. Inspection teams took their data from the market administration.
Two facilities were cited for absence of medical insurance for workers; three stores were charged with employing men and women in the same area; and 16 violations to Article 38 of Labor Ministry regulations, which stipulate that an employer shouldn’t employ a worker in a profession that is not specified in his work permit, or leaving his profession to work somewhere else before taking the necessary procedures to change the profession, were discovered.
