New bridge opens to vehicular traffic
JEDDAH: The Prince Majed Street Bridge at Bani Malik, toward the old airport, opened to vehicular traffic on Thursday. Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras inaugurated the bridge as an Eid Al-Fitr gift to ease the traffic during the holidays. The bridge is the 25th of its kind and a part of the project that includes tunnels to reduce traffic congestion in the city. The two-way bridge is 700 meters long and 18 meters wide, with three tracks for vehicles on each side. The project was scheduled to open in Shawwal, in accordance with government procurement system, but the municipality stressed for the opening of the bridge before Eid keep the traffic flow smooth and easy for the motorist during the holidays. He said totally nine projects were launched along with Prince Majed street and different junctions. All these projects facilitated easing of traffic and helped in reducing congestion. With the opening of the new bridge, there are now three main access roads to new King Abdulaziz airport — through King Fahd Road, King Abdul Aziz and Prince Majed Road.
