Statistics show more women taking to crime

Courts have heard cases of stabbings by four Saudi women and one expatriate this year. In the past six months, one case was brought against a Saudi woman for carrying a weapon, while last year the judiciary heard five cases of women carrying firearms — four Saudis and one expatriate.
According to latest statistics issued by the Ministry of Justice, Saudi courts prosecuted 20 women for entering private houses and rest places without permission of the owner. Half of them were Saudi women. This reflects an increase in this kind of cases compared to last year which did not exceed 35 cases filed against 13 Saudi women and 22 expatriates.
According to the statistics, the number of cases of quarrels and harming others registered against women in Saudi courts during this Hijri year amounted to 361 cases, of which 278 cases involved Saudi women and 83 non-Saudis.
Seventeen women were involved in the destruction or burning of property during the current year. Of these, 16 were Saudis and one was non-Saudi. Last year the number of cases stood at eight, involving five Saudis and three foreigners.
