Dh500 fine, 4 black points for throwing waste from car
New law aims to protect environment and keep UAE clean Drivers will be fined Dh500 and have four black points added to their traffic record if they or their passengers are caught throwing waste out of the car. The offence, part of recent traffic law amendments, involves throwing any kind of waste or spitting out of the window while the car is moving. In case of public transport vehicles, only passengers who are caught committing that offence will be punished, according to the new federal traffic law published by the Dubai-based Arabic language daily ‘Al Bayan’. “The new law is intended not only to ensure the safety of road users, but also to protect the environment and keep the country clean. “Penalties for such offences are either given in the presence of the offenders or in their absence,†the paper said. It quoted a traffic police official as saying drivers of taxis and other cars are responsible for such offences and are penalised accordingly. “As for buses and other public transport vehicles, the drivers are not responsible for such a behaviour. “Only the passengers who are caught or seen doing so will be punished. The driver can also identify the offenders in the bus.†The report said the new law authorised both the police and the municipalities to punish offenders for such violations on roads.
