Family

The conventional social organization system still exists in most of the Tanzanian families. System of Kinship offers support networks and it is evident during social gatherings.


Normally, the conventional customs of marriage differ in ethnic groups. Clan exogamy or wedding outside a group or clan is quite a common feature. Marriages are usually arranged by elders, be the parents of bride and bride groom, however this practice is not widely followed in metropolitan areas.


Dowries are given to the groom in patrilinear ethnic groups. The dowry is in the form of livestock, clothes, money, natively prepared beer and other things.

Extended families is a common feature found in Tanzania, but now a days due to the demands of life these extended structure has broken into nuclear unit particularly in metropolitan areas.In most of the Tanzanian family, the male is head of the family. A woman gains respect by means of her children, she will not be considered a matured one, unless or until she gives birth to a child.


Food

On the whole the Tanzanian foods are delicate and delicious. Nyama choma is one of the most common and popular foods in Tanzania. It is a simple and basic grilled meat. It is consumed along with rice, ubiquitous ugali, plantains, or chips.


Some of othere foods they consume are grins like sorghum, cassava, corn, meats like ducklings, chicken, meat samosas, and meat kebabs. An energetic breakfast comprise of buttermilk or chicken broth.

Dress

Women wear fully dress like skirt with sleeves. In areas like Zanzibar, which is a Muslim region, revealing costumes, like shorts are not allowed. Likewise long hair are not let down it is tied up into a bun. The traditional Tinian dress is a Masai dress. It is a single costume, draped around the body. Norumally the people do not wear expensive jewelleries.

Sports

The Tanzanians are sports loving people. Some of the common and popular sports played in the country are netball, football (Soccer), tennis, basketball, golf, boxing and volleyball. Tanzania has participated in major international sports events.
