House of wonders, Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a semi independent region in Tanzania. It consists of the Zanzibar Archipelago, 2 big island and several tiny islands. Pemba and Ungula are the two major islands. Tourism is one of the major industries in Zanzibar. Zanzibar has a number of Tourist spots and beautiful sandy beaches. The house of wonders is one prominent tourist spot in Zanzibar.


The House of wonders is a landmark structure in the stone town. It is situated amid the Palace Museum and the Old fort. The buildings is one among the six palaces constructed by the second sultan of Zanzibar, the Barghash bin Said. House of wonders is presently the home to the Swahili coast and the Museum of History & Culture of Zanzibar.


You will find a big middle courtyard, called atrium enclosed by open-air galleries.The inner doors of the palwce inscribed with the inscriptions from the holy Quran. The elegant European imported silver decorations and the marble floors are sure to impress you.


House of wonders Museum

Two Portuguese canons made out of bronze stands at the entrance to welcome you. The Persians captured these cannons, and bestowed it later to the Oman Sultans. They brought the Canons to Zanzibar. The largest cannon bears the Portuguese emperor, King John II’s emblem.


The House of wonders Museum houses eternal displays on Zanzibar and Swahili culture and also the East African environ. You can spot a conventional Swahili boat called the mtepe in the centre of the inner courtyard. You can drop into any of the numerous rooms sprawled on three floors. You will witness a variety of items, which includes the fishing weapons and the traditional weapons of the Swahili, the traditional Kangas, and Zanzibar sultans’ pictures. You can also come across an old car used by the President Abeid Karume.


Admission ticket

For adults it is 6.000 Tnz Shillings, and for kids it is 4.000 Tnz Shillings.
