The northern portion of the park alongside the Rufiji rives is declared as photographic and tourist zone. You can find here a number of camps and lodges. A number of visitors come to the park from Dar-e-salaam by means of tiny aircraft and by train.

Some to the interesting spots in the park are the Rufiji River, which confluences into the Indian Ocean in the direction opposite to the mafia island, a 100 meter high canyon called the Stiegler Gorge, territories like grasslands, wetlands, distinctive Acacia Savannahs, and widespread Miombo woodlands.
