It was started about 25 years ago. People used to gather at one of member's house weekly. In 1989 due to the efforts of Mr. Ajit Chitre, the Mandal got registered with the ministry and also rented a premises in Gudaibiya-Manama. Mr.Ajit Chitre was the first president of Maharashtra Cultural Society, (MCS). Since then the Mandal has come a long way and now it has a membership of more that 300 members that includes many Non Maharashtrians.
