Masai Mara

The Masai Mara formally known as the Masai Mara National Reserve and locally referred as the Mara is a big Game reserve in Kenya’s’ south western part. It is the northern extension of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. The national reserve is derived its name from the area’s traditional residents, the Masai.

The reserve is home or the extraordinary population of big cats and the yearly relocation the Thomson's gazelle, zebras, Serengeti’s wild beast, from the month of July to the month of October.

The Masai Mara is home to the “Big Five” leopard, lion, Black Rhinoceros African buffalo, and African elephant. However the Black rhinos are spotted only rarely, they are poor in number due to frequent poaching.

You can also spot along the banks of the Talek and the Mara rivers, animals like hyenas Leopards, jackals, cheetahs, and bat-eared foxes

Some of the other residents you are bound to stumble upon are the antelopes found in large numbers, impalas, Grant's gazelles, duikers, Coke's hartebeests and elands.

Lions can be spotted, provided you should have the patience to stay for a reasonably long time.
