Family

Normally, the Koreans live for generations, under one roof. Grandparents, mother, father and children live in the same house. But nowadays due to changing economical factors, and other aspects, the extended family has shrinked to nuclear type. Nowadays it is common to find in Korea, separate families living in urban areas, however in rural areas, the extended joint family setup is still practiced. Respecting elders is inculcated in children right from their tender age. Father& son form the main relationship. The male is the breadwinner of the family, while the women folk look after the family. Nowadays, some woman also goes to work to generate income. Until marriage the children are dependent on their parents.


Food

The staple food for the Korean is Rice. It finds a prominent place in almost all dishes. A normal Korean meal comprises of rice, some soup variety, sometimes, a major dish like poultry, meat or pork, and a number of side dishes. The most common collection of side dish is Kimchi, which comprises of several vegetables (radishes, cabbages, and several roots), preserved with spices like red pepper, garlic and ginger. Some of the other popular cuisines are meat based foods like Bulgogi (prepared with shredded beef), Bossam (manufactured with steamed pork), fish dishes like Sannakji, Hoe, etc.


Dress

Hanbok, is the traditional dress for the Koreans. It comprise of jeogori (shirt), baji (skirt), and a conventional hat known as gwanmo. The Koreans are very much particular about their dressing, as it considered as a symbol of social status .The rich people differentiate from others by wearing costly jewel items. During the winter season, cotton-wadded dresses are worn by the people.


Sports

Kite flying is a popular traditional sport in Korea. The kites are made with conventional Korean paper and bamboo sticks. Some of the other popular sports are bull fighting, Sumo wrestling, Korean wrestling, Taekwondo, and modern sports like football, baseball, etc. Korea has the credit of hosting the 1988 Olympic Games at Seoul. The 2018 winter Olympics is scheduled to be held in Pyeongchang
