In Germany, even in this high tech modern individualized world, the family is the basic importance for the Germans. Over the passage of time, the family importance, as the core of life has increased. For nearly 90%perent of the German population, the family becomes their top most priority. Nearly 70% of the young people in the age group of 12 to 25 years strongly believe that happiness is based on having a family.
A normal German family consisted of a couple and their children. The father is the breadwinner for the family and the mother is the “house wife” who looks after the kids and the household work. Now recently many of the mothers are going to work. Nearly 65% of the women are workingwomen. Likewise the concept having a single child is often seen. Likewise the German people live alone or as a couple with no children. According to a survey out of five women in the age groups of 40 to 44, one does not have children.

Staple food
Some of the major types of meat consumed by the Germans are Poultry, beef and pork. Generally, a normal German consumes nearly 130lb (61 kg) of meat annually. Amongst the poultry items, chicken is widely consumed, but also turkey, duck and goose are also widely consumed. Almost throught the year, the Germans also eat game meats such as rabbit, boar and vension. Gaot and lams are also consumed by the Germans but not to a great extent. Generally the meat is roasted in pots. Dishes are also fried in pans, but this concept has been derived from France.
Fish
The freshwater fish that most frequently occupies a place in the German menu is Trout. Likewise other fishes like carp, pike, and European perch also finds a place in the German cuisine. The Germans also eat sea fishes like salmon, mackerel, tuna and sardines.
Dress
Though Germany is not regarded as a Fashion destination, it does have a noteworthy role to play in the fashion world. The German fashion is best recognized by their traditional dressing style.
Dirndl: A traditional dress that is widely worn by the people in south Germany is the Dirndl. It is initially a folk costume’s basic version. The Dirndl constitutes various garments that form the whole suit. It comprises of a bodice that is worn along with a blouse. It also consists of a complete skirt and also an apron. The other popular dresses are the Lederhosen (Leather dresses), Gamsbart, and a hair tuft which is utilized as decorative one.
Sports
Some of the popular sports in Germany are Football, Ice hockey, Rugby Union, Cycling, Motor sports etc. Germany has the credit of hosting the Summer Olympic Games two times, in 1936 at Bavaria and at 1972 at Munich.
